Advanced Diagnostics That Find the Fault First Time

Warning lights and limp mode don’t tell the full story. Our advanced diagnostics service uses live data, electrical testing and real-world checks to identify the root cause — before money is wasted on parts.

Why “Code Reading” Isn’t Enough

Modern vehicles log fault codes as symptoms, not answers. A handheld scanner might say NOx sensor fault or low pressure, but that does not mean the sensor or pump has failed.

We see vehicles every week where parts have already been replaced, yet the fault returns. Advanced diagnostics focuses on:

  • What the ECU is commanding
  • What the system is actually doing
  • Why the values don’t match
Guessing costs money. Testing saves it.

Problems We Diagnose Daily

Warning Lights & Limp Mode

  • Engine management light
  • Limp mode under load
  • Intermittent power loss

AdBlue & Emissions Faults

  • No-start countdowns
  • P20E8, P204F, P207F
  • NOx sensor plausibility

Running & Driveability Issues

  • Misfires and hesitation
  • Hard starting
  • Poor fuel economy

What We Actually Test

  • Full system scan with freeze-frame review
  • Live data under real driving conditions
  • Fuel pressure and boost control tests
  • DPF back-pressure measurement
  • Smoke testing for intake and boost leaks
  • Electrical signal tracing with PicoScope
  • Crank and cam correlation checks
  • Injector pulse and current draw
  • CAN and LIN network integrity
  • Software level and adaptation status

Real Faults We’ve Found

Ford Transit — Repeated NOx Faults

Fault codes pointed to a failed NOx sensor. Two had already been fitted elsewhere.

Live data showed both sensors reading correctly, but no change during dosing. The real fault was a blocked AdBlue injector causing zero SCR efficiency. Injector cleaned, system reset, fault resolved.

VW Crafter — Intermittent Limp Mode

Only occurred on motorway inclines.

Smoke test revealed a split boost hose that only opened under load. No fault code pointed directly to it. Hose replaced, boost restored.

BMW 320d — Random EML

Customer told “needs injectors”.

PicoScope showed crank signal noise from a failing sensor. Injector balance was fine. Crank sensor replaced, issue gone.

Mercedes Sprinter — No-Start Countdown

Heater fault replaced, countdown returned.

Wiring voltage drop inside the tank harness prevented proper reset. Harness repaired, relearn completed, vehicle back in service.

What to Expect From an Advanced Diagnostic Session

  1. Symptom review — when it happens, cold vs hot, any prior work.
  2. Full scan — all modules, not just engine.
  3. Targeted testing — scope, smoke, pressure, or road test.
  4. Clear explanation — plain English, no jargon.
  5. Action plan — repair options, costs, and time.

Sessions usually take 60–90 minutes. Complex network faults may take longer — we’ll tell you before continuing.

What Happens After Diagnosis?

Once the fault is confirmed, you decide how to proceed. Diagnostics often lead into:

Advanced Diagnostics FAQs

How much does advanced diagnostics cost?

We charge a fixed diagnostic fee. You’ll know the cost before we start, and it’s deducted from labour if you proceed with repairs.

Can you diagnose a non-runner?

Yes. Our mobile van is equipped for no-start diagnostics and on-site testing.

Will you still help if I want to repair it myself?

Yes. We’ll provide a written report and test results so you can fit parts with confidence.

Is diagnostics refundable?

The diagnostic session covers time and testing. It is not refundable, but it prevents wasted spend.
